Description
Mixture Formulation 45% Italian Rye/ 40% Field Pea / 15% White Clover
The blend is well-suited for use in intensive cropping systems, including rotations ahead of vegetable or produce crops, where nutrient cycling and soil conditioning are critical. The diverse below-ground root architecture promotes soil biological activity by supporting microbial communities through root exudates, contributing to improved nutrient cycling and soil health. Italian ryegrass prioritizes extensive root system development during the establishment year, which enhances soil structure, aids in alleviating surface compaction, and improves water infiltration. In combination with field peas, the rapid germination and canopy development provide effective early-season weed suppression, reducing competition and allowing slower establishing species, such as white clover, to become established.
As the field peas complete their life cycle and terminate, the white clover component expands and becomes the dominant legume, delivering continued nitrogen fixation and ground cover into the second year. This succession-driven system provides both immediate and extended agronomic benefits, including nutrient capture, biological nitrogen contribution, and sustained soil coverage.
Seeding Rate: 25-50 lbs./ac.
